Case report Bone marrow transplantation as treatment for X-linked immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM
We report a 10-year-old boy with a severe form of immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM who underwent successful bone marrow transplantation with his HLA-matched sister as donor. Busulfan (20 mg/kg) and cyclophosphamide (200 mg/kg) were used as conditioning. The post-transplant course was uneventful. He is alive 25 months later with full hematological and immunological reconstitution. BORDIGONI, P, e...
متن کاملBone marrow transplantation for canine X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency.
Canine X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency (XSCID) is due to mutations in the common gamma chain which is a subunit of the receptors of IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9 and IL-15. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) of human XSCID patients without pretransplant conditioning (cytoablation) results in engraftment of donor T-cells and reconstitution of T-cell function but engraftment of few, if any, don...
متن کاملHyper-IgM Immunodeficiency with Enamel Defects: a Case Report
Background: Hyper-Immunoglobulin M (IgM) syndrome (HIGM) is a rare primary immunodeficiency in which defective B-cell isotype switching results in a phenotype characterized by elevated or normal serum IgM levels and low levels of other Ig classes, leading to an increased susceptibility to infection, neutropenia, autoimmune disorders, and malignancies. In this disease, a mutation occurs in the C...
متن کاملFull Immunologic Reconstitution Following Nonconditioned Bone Marrow Transplantation for Canine X-Linked Severe Combined Immunodeficiency
Bone marrow transplantation in human X-linked severe Normal percentages of T cells and T-cell mitogenic recombined immunodeficiency (XSCID) without pretransplant sponses were attained by 3 months posttransplant. CD3 T conditioning results in engraftment of donor T cells and recells after transplantation expressed the CD45RA isoform constitution of T-cell function but engraftment of few, if any,...
متن کاملFoscarnet as treatment for cytomegalovirus retinitis following bone marrow transplantation.
This report describes a patient with chronic granulocytic leukaemia who developed cataracts on busulphan treatment. Following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, he developed cytomegalovirus retinitis, which was treated successfully with trisodium phosphonoformate (foscarnet). Cytomegalovirus retinitis and its therapy, and busulphan-induced cataract are discussed.
